Pro News Flash: Euro Under Pressure
September 30, 2026 @ 00:58 +03:00
💶 The euro is under growing pressure, falling against the U.S. dollar for 11 of the last 14 days and dropping below 1.1350, a level not seen for more than 15 months. Renewed concerns over Europe’s debt and energy risks, combined with diverging Fed and ECB policies, are weighing on the currency.
📉 Political risk is also rising as the yield spread between French and German bonds reaches its highest level since 2012. With another clash between France’s government and National Assembly expected, concerns are growing around the country’s €3.5 trillion debt burden and the potential impact on European markets.
🏦 The ECB is taking a cautious approach, while markets have reduced expectations for an October deposit rate hike. At the same time, the chances of a Fed rate hike in October have risen to 73%, widening the monetary policy gap and adding further pressure to the euro-dollar pair.
â›˝ Energy risks are adding another layer of pressure. European gas storage is currently at 71%, well below the five-year average of 87%, reviving memories of the 2022 energy crisis when the euro fell below parity with the dollar. With the euro already weakening, the question is how much further it could fall.
